about
This is a song called Running. I decided to write a song on this topic after being inspired by Bernd Heinrich's Why We Run. In his book, Heinrich explores the fascinating quandary of why we still choose to run, even though it is no longer something that is necessary for our survival as a species. I feel like I can really relate to when he talks about the primal feeling and excitement of the hunt and chasing after a reward. Heinrich states plainly and beautifully, we run because it fulfills our innermost desire to survive.

lyrics
Intro: (Instrumental)
Verse 1:
Consistent run along the river,
I feel like I am a machine,
In myself but I’m outside,
Body in rhythm with my heartbeat,
Body in rhythm with my heartbeat.
Verse 2:
Spontaneous mind keeps on wanderin’,
Thoughts are racing in my head,
Then I come back to my breathing,
Left, right, left, beat, beat, in and out,
Left, right, left, beat, beat, in and out.
Chorus:
Cuz I’m,
Chasing the prize,
Energized,
I’m alive.
Verse 3:
What a fine mode of movement,
Gets me here and to and fro,
On the hunt, I’m gonna catch it,
The end is the beginning and I’m starting anew.
Yes, I’m starting anew.
Chorus:
Cuz I’m,
Chasing the prize,
Energized,
So alive.
